3 Things You Must Do To Be Successful In 2018

With the New Year just starting I'm sure your much like everyone else in America and reevaluating your life, deciding what is important to you and how you would like to make 2018 a better year. The hiccup that most people come across is not that they don't have ambition or desire to grow and be successful in their goals, the problem is they don't know how to do it. 

 

One of my favorite things in life is to see people win :) To experience a client's victory when she increases her weight on her deadlift or the look of satisfaction she has when she powers through an extra challenging workout is the reason why I coach. I LOVE people. So, I'm gonna give you the answer to create and crush your goals this year. And it's actually way easier than you think.

 

PLAN

 

This sounds so obvious, right? Well apparently it isn't. I've fallen prey to this mistake myself. I decide that I need to drop 10 pounds, but just deciding that I need to lose the weight isn't enough to get me there. I have to draw out a plan, I'll workout 3 days each week, eat a caloric deficit of 3000 calories per week, I'll get 8 hours of rest each day and track all my food and progress. The plan needs to be specific and in writing, so that you can review each day that you hit your marks. The plan also needs to be reasonable and something that you can accomplish. Be mindful as you are writing it out that it is something that you will actually be able to achieve. This will take a significant amount of time, but it is vital to your success.

 

PREPARE

 

As you get a few weeks into working on your goal the sheer willpower factor starts to fade and anything will become an excuse to fall back into old habits. Excuses become good reasons to quit in the mind of a person that does not properly prepare to power through the tough stuff. Schedules, sickness, stress and money are all excuses that I hear from my clients that become good reasons in their minds to quit what they said matters most to them. If you prepare for these excuses in advance, you'll have far more success in achieving your goals.

 

As you create your plan, think about the obstacles that you typically face in trying to stick with it. If it's a crazy schedule, then prepare each week by writing down the days you'll workout. If it's food choices, then prepare your meals each week on Sunday or in my case, I just need to have healthy choices in the house. I do that by writing out my list of meals for the week and shopping accordingly.

 

PURPOSE

 

With a plan of action in place and proper preparation, the last thing that will help you crush your goal is to apply purpose to everything you do. Every choice that you make, you can stop yourself and ask, Will this get me closer to my goal? 

 

For example if I want to create more mindfulness in my life, is it necessary for me to stress over getting in all 8 glasses of water? Or if I want to increase my weight on my squat should I focus on daily runs? Not really. I need to make sure that all my choices throughout the day correspond with my goal and will help me get closer to the win. Living my life with purpose will help me to not only achieve success but also keep my mind focused continually on the prize.
